  • "Charlene, you just might be the future of rock n' roll" declared Mr. Kim Fowley on Sirius radio this year in reference to Charlene McPherson, lead singer of New York City band Spanking Charlene. Spanking Charlene's songs combine big guitar riffs, catchy hooks, and in your face lyrics that celebrate the fun and frustrations of sex and romance in the big city. Their debut record, "Dismissed with a Kiss", produced by Eric "Roscoe"Ambel was released in 2007.

Faith

  • Faith has formed a musical style, "Unlike virtually any other sound out there" (J. Lien - CMJ). "If Nina Simone had a power trio with a rock/soul and reggae flair, it would sound something like this" (Doug DeFalco, Talent Buyer, Southpaw). Felice Rosser "Sings in a voice both plangent and wailing" (New York Times). With sweet and powerful guitars from Nao Hakamada and funky polyrhythms from drummer Billy Ficca (Television), Faith has developed an immensely colorful sound., "…tunes that are not rock, not funk, not r&b, so much as deeply soulful tone poems back by multiculti dream pop" (Village Voice).

Devi

  • Devi is a rock power trio from Hoboken NJ with a debut album Lucid Culture calls "definitely one of the year's very best." Get Free bursts out of the gate with the exhilarating powerpop gem "Another Day" and closes with a six-minute cover of "The Needle and the Damage Done" that ranges from dreamy to ferociously jamming. This is a true rock power trio playing at the top of its game…led by a woman.

Debra gets compared in the press to singers Sheryl Crow, Liz Phair and PJ Harvey and to guitarists David Gilmour, Jimi Hendrix and George Harrison. Bonham-style drummer John Hummel and powerhouse bassist Dan Grennes respond fluidly to her every move. Live, the band "jams with joy and abandon. If adrenaline, crescendos, and heart-wrenchingly beautiful playing are something you would enjoy," adds Lucid Culture, "get your ass down there."
